Description: A cable that is constructed of an inner core of optical fibers (glass or plastic) which are covered by high-density polyethylene. Fiber cable may be wrapped with various types of strengthening materials including steel wire and high-density polyethylene. Optical fiber consists of a core and a cladding layer, selected for total internal reflection due to the difference in the refractive index between the two. In practical fibers, the cladding is usually coated with a layer of acrylate polymer or polyimide.
